A question adout medium

hi every body, i have phal that i repotted two weeks back bcos of root rot. first it was in sphagnum moss now its in coconut husk. though i changed the medium i haven't seen any new roots growing.and the roots are roting again.i don't over water it.bcos its to hot here i water it once in 4 days, and before watering it i check the weight of the pot,does it needs more time to grow new roots. i am sorry, i am not able send any photos. can somedody help me on this thank you

If the roots are rotting again, it is getting too much water. Does the pot you put it in have good drainage? The water should run through the bark and the phals roots should dry off (not out) before watering again. Is you orchid sitting in a dish that holds water? Something is keeping the water in the pot. Unpot the phal and clean up the roots. Repot in a small, tight container that has good drainage. If you are potting him in a large container, the center (root ball) may not get enough air movement to dry off and that could be the problem.

Also, try using larger pieces of coconut husk, or bark pieces.

hi every body,if i don't water the phal it the leafs look a bit leathery. its medium is bit smaller in size ,and has u told its in a larger pot ,so should i repot it in a smaller pot , its medium on the bottom remain damp most of the time. if i don't water it in time the leafs looks wrinkled . and the pot has vent only in the bottom. shall i place styrofoam nuggets or polystyrene in middle of roots for proper air circulation. i haven't kept pebble tray under the pot. thank u

Yes, put the phal in a smaller pot. You can put a small pile of styrofoam pieces in the center, and put some bark or coconut husk chips over the styrofoam, then spread the phal roots over the pile, then fill in around the roots with more bark, coconut husk chips, or horticultural charcoal.
