Strangely enough in spite of the hot dry spell we've been having, many of my orchids were either spiking ( oncidiums, cattelyas) or blooming (vandas).
Here are 3 of my 'blue' vandas that are blooming now. Unfortunately the hot weather ( 35-37C or 96-100F daytime temp) has caused a drastic drop in the number of blooms : in the case of the vasco to 50% and the vandas to 65%.The later buds dried up before they could open. That's why I was singin' the blues.
The flower of the small Vascostylis Blue Fairy ( Ascda Meda Arnold x Rhy coelestis) measures1.5ins -3.8cm.
The flowers of both the vandas are 3ins or 7.5cm across.
The vanda with the strong tesselations is V Pakchong Blue(V Dr Anek x coerulea) and the other one with spots is V Siam 'Ink'.
