The scandens above was selfed (because no one else was in bloom then) a year ago and it shows signs of growth. Any takers, hmmm?

I have not known there was such a variety. I know of the rotorii variant, which has no yellow streaks at all, and a much rarer pure yellow variant.

I can only think that because of it's growth habit being so small, they have called it - variety compactum



I'm not even sure what the colours are going to be like, but if there is plenty of red in it, I'll be most happy!

btw, the two uppermost leaves looks like they have sunburn... should I cut it off or leave it?

the plant was initially mounted on cork but as the humidity level can get to 30, I thought I'd best put it in a pot!

I don't see a var. compactum in the AOS database I have. As Nelson said, just the V. merrillii var. rotorii.

the vendor describes this variety as:- "Bright shiny brown flowers on the compact grower"....

hmm, doesn't sound like it's going to be anything like yours NTGerald... but if it is half as good or even a quarter, then I will be very happy...

Beautiful flowers! I have seen some of the plant during the sunday market in Lung center and there were a lot of Vanda Javier being sold with some markings in the center!
