Ron, interesting you say it doesn't do well for you, I was told that unless I had the sort of climate you have I wouldn't grow it. I don't have your climate and haven't had a problem, very strange.

i know its strange, had mine more than a year and picked all sorts of places in my garden. there was always new growths coming out and then the leaves fell of one by one, the same story on maybe 6 growths?

Now that you mention it, I got this plant from the tropical part of Aust' and it had more bare canes the leaved ones. I now have more canes with leaves than not x double. Maybe it doesn't like the heat its supposed to.

I like this species especially the throat very green. Nice specimen and blooms.

As a part of Formosae group of Dendrobium, they needed regular air movement and humidity. They hate being wet feet (needed to be dry off after watering) as they tend to rot their own roots and canes, they best in a perfect drain media such as charcoal with little coarse of bark or coconut chips/fibers. This group is a bright light lover, not exposed directly to the sun. When they are directly exposed to the sun their leaf buds easily burned. They are also susceptible to black weevils (cane borers). At home my Philippine Dendrobium Formosae group species such as dearei, parthenium, sanderae (var. Major, Parviflorum and Luzonicum) and schuetzei were attacked with black weevils at this time. They are painfully inflicted.
