yellow bloom dendrobium

this was the only one of it's kind there! it's not spiking out of the normal spot a den would, so i assumed it was a hybrid (i've only read about these guys in passing) it was all buds when i bought it, and i didn't notice it had a burn. boy do i notice now! i moved it to a shadier spot and it seems a lot better, but the spike isn't going to hold the flowers for nothing. personally i'm so dissappointed with it's flower that i don't care! i would be embarrassed to post these photos in the "in bloom section"....ugh! so i gave it to my mother ( who loves the green color petals, bell shape and how delicate it it. figures...she loves violets) but it's leaves are so cute, i just have to be concerned for it...

do you think the upper leaves that arn't yellow all the way through will survive?

i wouldn't worry much, this type of dens usually have bare canes....

hmmm guys, the bloom really is green and purple. the yellow leaves are a sunburn, and the blooms are scortched too, that's why it looks yellow...she's already dropping the ugly leaves, so i'm not to worried. ...but it's a real curiosity to me how the spikes come out of the underside of the leaf, where as my other den always shoots spikes out of the center of the cane.

This appears to be a D. Gatton Sunray. Typically all the leaves will fall off the canes (as they mature) and the bloom spike comes off from the tip of the canes. As the plant matures each year, more bare canes will appear and re-bloom each year. Don't despair, this is a great orchid.!
