Everything about this light violet vanda spells "BIG". A robust plant with big dark green leaves and big blooms.
Its lower sepals seem brushed with a darker tint in sanderiana fashion.
This is a dependable bloomer, usually in bloom at least three times a year.
This is beautiful, thanks for sharing.
Love it and the red one behind it too!
Cheers,

Thanks guys!
Bruce, the red one had been there years before I transferred the Velthius hybrid. Both are prolific bloomers and are often in bloom at the same time. They make a great team. ;-)
Very nice blooms. Glad to see that semi/quarter terete vandas are popular in the Philippines. V Merv Velthuis as a parent was used quite extensively back in the late 60s and 70s in Malaysia but unfortunately due to the great demand for arandas, mokaras and kagawaras, semi/quarter terete vanda hybridisation fell into decline. However there seems to be new interest in them now and that is good ,seeing that there are now superior clones of strap leaf vandas to be used as parents.
By the way I saw a beautiful cross of Merv Velthuis x V Miss Joaquim. Been trying to get one.
Hello Yew Sung. Again, thank you for all the information you share. Semi terete vandas ARE popular in the Philippines, being the workhorse of the vanda cutflower industry, especially V. JVB and its hybrids.
In fact, they are more popular than the strap vandas. Many pocket gardens would have at least one semi terete, usually a V. JVB hybrid.
I think they are quite popular because:
First, perhaps they are easier to grow in our constantly hot climate. Though strap vandas also grow well, they are more suited to selected areas only.
Second, they are more affordable, often sold at only 40-50% the price of a strap.
Very beautiful ! Thanks for sharing !
Hi Angel,
What Is JVB? I'm sorry i'm not really familiar with the hybrid..
Thanks Amey. You have some beautiful orchids yourself. :-)
Bella, it is Vanda Josephine van Brero.
Thanks Angel![]()
