A Cascade of Fragrant Dendrodium Anosmum

That's me in black with my cousin Roseanna posing beneath our grandpa's blooming dendrobium anosmum. Very long flowering spikes cascade down the side of this old tree. Lower spikes behind my left shoulder bear flowers almost down to ground level. Another long spike full of buds seems to be growing straight out of my cousin's head.

and the fragrance....lovely!

Angel, Im envious.... my Den. anosmum still has a long way to go before it'll bloom like
that. How is old that plant anyways? it seems to me that some of the canes are really
long might even be taller than you.

Also, its nice to see a photo of you... its always nice to put a face behind the members
name.

Hello Randy. I think that orchid has been there for at least twenty years. It may be my grandpa's favorite orchid since he has it several trees on his property.

I also posted a photo of me under the thread "A picture of yourself" (is that the correct title?)
anyway, I'll browse through the other threads to find your photos...;-)
I saw Ron's and that of other Filipino members. Can't recall their names now.

Ah your Grandpa must really love this species, i cant blame him. Its an easy, low
maintainance plant to care for. And the rewards, well... the photo speak for themselves.

Yes, it is quite a sight to behold, especially in March and April when the anosmum is in bloom. The air all around is perfumed.

My grandpa's farm has many fruit trees where dendrobium and phalaenopsis grow. One can sometimes see cows chewing on the phals growing within reach. Lucky cows!

Try to prune the big trees so that sunlight can penetrate the Dendrobium anosmum psuedobulbs aka sanggumay orchids. This will make the orchid grow longer , bigger canes and more flowers. This orchid also requires a short rest period. meaning drying them during the " BER " month .

Try to plant your orchid as high as possible away from the cows and preying eyes. Dendrobium anosmum in some Philippine provinces is said to be a good luck plant .

So people would grow this orchid in almost every backyard . Unfortunately , due to urbanization and rapid industrialization fewer and fewer Dendrobium anosmum can be seen in the cities and even in the provinces.
