I have received a few plastic net baskets and wonder if anyone has been using them. I hesitate using them on my Phals because I am afraid the roots will be damaged when it comes time to repot. I will greatly appreciate your help.

I use some of them for growing a few seedling orchids, but that is only because I had some smaller net baskets.I think they are fine and should not damage your orchid roots unless you break the roots off when repotting. The plastic can be easily cut and should not be a big deal to remove unless the orchid is really overgrown in the basket. If that is the case, just leave the basket and set it inside a larger one.

Thank you for the response. Being a thrifty soul I never thought about cutting them up. Would they be an advantage in potting a phal. How did your seedlings do?
Pat
I think a phal will grow in just about any kind of pot as long as it gets good air to the root system. Why not give it a try and see how it does. How it turns out is going to depend on your culture/care anyway. Good luck.

I just re-potted some of my Phals into these net post last week and am anxiously watching to see how they do. Then again, anything has to be better than what I brought them home in. I think I am really going to like them with sphag b/c I tend to worry about it being too wet and more holes = more air circulation. Right?

The air circulation together with the constant moisture of the sphag is what got me interested in the net pots. I just repotted a phal luddemaniana seedling in a net pot with sphag. Time will tell. Let me know how yours' are doing. Pat
