Brassia Maculata?

Last yr. a friend had this growing in the ground in his yard and he "ripped" a piece out and gave it to me and voila, it bloomed. No Fragrance. He says it is "maculata" I have my doubts .
What do you think?

Maybe a cross with maculata? Maculata has more spots on the lip, and the shape is a bit different.

I don't know the name...but you say it was growing in the ground?? Where exactly does your friend live?? One of mine that is in this family is in bloom. They are so huge and pretty...

Yes Connie, he had it in the ground in NWFl. Hard to believe, I know.

That is no maculata. It is a hybrid IMO. Still nice though.

Maybe i'll just take one and dump it under the big huge tree in back....see if it takes over the corner. I may have to try this one. I already have two ground orchids under a palm to see if they will grow there.

Yeah, while it is a very nice orchid, it certainly looks like a hybrid. Seems a lot like several brassidiums that floating about both this website and my house.

Amazing that it was just growing in the ground.
