leaf problem

Hello everyone,
What do you think the blotchy areas are? They are not mushy but are on the underside, as well.

Hard to say for sure, but could be virus. The only way to know for sure would be to test the plant. Has the plant bloomed and were the flowers normal? Definitely keep away from other plants. If it is virus, there is no cure.

Is it possible that it is a ringspot virus? I saw many pictures of this virus on the internet and this one seems like ringspot. I am absolute amateur with growing orchids but it seems like RSV.

No, it hasn't bloomed. I can't remember how long I've had it, but I'm sure that I bought it within the last two years, and most likely, I paid only about $10-12 for it. I don't have a problem at all with trashing it if it is infected but my main worry, of course, is whether the infection might have spread to my other orchids. For that reason, I might feel better to have it tested, for peace of mind. What do you think?

Yes, I would suspect ringspot virus but again, only testing may confirm.

What I would probably do is trash this plant and test the other plants if that is feasible. However, the decision is yours. I have an orchid growing friend that has found some virused plants in his greenhouse and is now going through the whole collection to weed out the virused plants. Not a fun job and he has found many of the plants that he has had for a long time are coming up positive for virus.

Gosh Sonya, it looks like ringspot to me, too. ??? But then, (VERY THANKFULLY) I've never had a virused plant, so I'm 100% clueless.

You mentioned amateur.....well, you're not the only one who is amateur...me too. I've been trying to grow orchids for about 2 1/2 yrs., but that's only the tip of the iceberg compared to veterans with many years of growing experience. Sooo, I'm relying on all of you to advise me.

Do all the leaves have those spots? The new growths too?

I would keep it away from the other orchids, but first - do the other leaves have the same issues as this one? Did this just happen or has it been this way for a long time? I hope it is not a virus, Vicki.

hmmm, scary stuff, had very similar looking leaves on some bulbos, i noticed it grows very quickly, lets say 3-5 days, until the whole leaf turns yellow within a week and falls off.
im still observing the new growths.

pls, keep us posted, in case you have your plant tested.
