Blc Tzeng-Wen Beauty 'Budai' a bit gaudy for my taste ?

A first flowering for me, although the plant had flowered before - but not on the last two growths - maybe it suffered on its way from South America ( or maybe North America - not sure where it came from - I'm not that systematic ! ) or maybe it came like that and it's my brilliant culture which has brought it into flower - more likely my Gro-lux supplementary lighting turning the gloom of an English winter ( sometimes - its not always so ) into sunny days.....
However, here it is, and I can't make up my mind whether to keep it, or make it a prize at the raffle at my next Orchid Society meetings ( do you have raffles ? buy a ticket and lucky winner gets the prize ? or is that a UK only thing ? ).
See, its a bit gaudy, OTT, jazzy , for me ... I really like the species, gentler, more natural etc. although I have a lot of hybrids that I truly love.
I have looked this one up on Orchid-wiz. The three illustrated all look Peloric ( three lips) which I hate - a freak of nature in my book - burn 'em I say...So mine is at least the best Tzeng-Wen I can see. Maybe I'll keep it after all. What do you think ?

I've owned ... & enjoyed ... far gaudier ones. Personally, I rather like it.

It is a bit gaudier than I would normally choose, but it IS pretty, and I would keep it. OTOH, I'm sure some newer grower would go nutz over it as a raffle prize (yes, we have those at my OS too). I'd say if you feel happy when you see it, keep it. If not, donate it. Either way, someone will be happier for it!

Yes, I am also not a big fan of pelorics myself. But as it has only the colour of the lip and not the shape, I wouldn't mind keeping it.

She is simply a TART I say! Personally I love the gaudy, floosies! They bring a splash of color into my life which I sorely need.

Actually, because you DID ask us, I'll tell you my opinion...I don't really care for it. If I won it at a raffle (which we do have here in the U.S.,) I would give it to someone who DID like it...Just my opinion...Betty :-)

I agree, what a good way of describing her (it).
However, she is reprieved ; I put the plant in a plain white porcelain container, hiding the brown plastic pot, amd used it as table decoration - it was my turn to cook the dinner ( Moroccan spiced prawns in lemon couscous , followed by baked plums and figs with a tangy Marsale wine sauce and some naughty cream) which I served on white porcelain plates and dishes - no table-cloth, just plain wood table.
And she who is to be obeyed ( a joke based on a UK tv series you won't have seen) a.k.a. my dearly beloved spouse, approved, and cooed over the orchid . "Not too gaudy, says I ? " " No, the white porcelain saves the day" , says she.

So, sorry folks, I'm not chucking it anywhere at the moment...
