    Default Ascda Tubtim Velvet

I have mentioned this plant before, so here is a couple of pics. Unfortunately the spikes were too near the glass and got blasted by some unseasonably cold nights ( down to minus 4 deg C at the lowest - in November ! ) but enough flowers survived from the two spikes to make me look forward to the next flowering , maybe in the summer - these Vanda types are not specially seasonal I find. The greenhouse stat is set to about 17 C for the night, and probably was that near the centre , but inevitably a bit less at the edges, despite all my fans, and coldest next to the glass. If I lower the plants on longer hangers, to take spikes away from the glass, it's bad for my head - which gets banged as I walk below them....
The plant measures some 27 inches leafspan, and produced two spikes, of 8 and 10 flowers respectively. But the potential seems good ! And, not bad for Uk, if I do say so myself - the usual reaction, when a group of my plants is seen at a UK show, as part of my Society's stand, is for people to ask where they came from "because we know you can't grow them in UK " .
( Maybe 10 flowers survided the cold). The best flowers some 4 inches dia,
It is of course a meristem.

Beautiful. Pity about the blasted buds - would have made a fantastic display with two spikes.

Another beautiful vanda...you do amazing with these. I can understand how your society members feel. I struggle with them as well. Although I recently found out the little ones seem to do better with my care. So there's hope...
