paph insigne v sanderiana and Paph villosum var villosum

I moved house some 6 years ago and downsized my total collection a lot, which meant selling a lot of plants and splitting up others to start again from small plants. And then it seemed my paphs, of all things just didn't like the new conditions and it has taken this long to get them coming back into good condition and starting to flower. But seeing them, is like seeing old friends again - in fact it is just that. Maybe I am enjoying them that much more after the long absence !
Anyway, here is Paph insigne v.sanderiana , the light green and yellow one, and P.villosum var villosum , the dark beauty.

This one is just beautiful. I think is Paph insigne. I guess the other one must be pretty too

Gorgeous..... Geoff, love this 2 species. Something extraordinary villosum has a darker color maybe selected clone. Congrats.

I did get an award for it, from the RHS some years ago , but it was a CCC/RHS - which is the only award they give to growers , all the rest are to plants... I showed it as a specimen with 10 blooms, but subsequently divided it up so as to swap pieces... but I now think it is almost always a mistake to divide up, unless the plant gets too big to carry....

Both the paphs are beautiful but that dark villosum is fantastic. I would personally rate that CCC at the very top as it is a recognition of one's cultural excellence. Do you have a picture of the specimen plant at the time of the award? Would love to see that!

I expect there is a 35mm slide somewhere - amongst 50 years of photography pushed into the loft, when the digital revolutioon happened to me... but I can't promise to fid it ; if I do I will post.

I surprised myself how easily I found it, on an old external hard drive. Sorry about the lighting , the picture was taken in the RHS Committee room.
The flowers here seen are lighter in colour - and as you will see the dorsals are more reflexed ; this is a matter of age - the RHS Committe only meets every several weeks or even months, so often flowers are not fresh by the time one is able to put the plant up for award. Of course these paphs last for months - but the colours seen on the single flower at the start of this thread are what are seen when the flower has been out for days , only.

A very extraordinary paph. and well worth the recognition you received. I had no idea that paphs. produced this many blooms. The insignie v. sanderiana is also a beauty.

WOW. that is one fantabulous show!!!!! Small wonder it won the CCC.

I think side-lighting is perfect for it. Great shot..
