Bulbophyllum Lovely Elizabeth

I went to the show yesterday hoping to find an Elizabeth Ann but opted for this instead. Hopefully, the extra addition of rothschildianum adds a bit more temp tolerance. I am posting here to ask about potting. It was in a clay pot with coco chips and a sphagnum top dressing. I got a basket and packed sphag between the slats. Charcoal layer on bottom with sphag over that. Then a few styrofoam peanuts and coco chips. Then a small bark mix (bark, perlite, and charcoal). Then more sphag on top. My humidity hovers around fifty percent most times. Have I done anything wrong here? It's my first bulbo.

Have I been mistaken? Isn't Elizabeth Ann a hybrid of longissimum and rothschildianum?

No you're right. I think what Vincent is saying is that Lovely Elizabeth is a backcross onto rothschildianum.

Ah...I thought that I had gotten it wrong! So that would give me more temp tolerance, right? Rothschildianum is supposed to be more temp tolerant than most other bulbos if I haven't gotten bad info. Sorry, Vincent, if I came off sounding snippy. Any critiques on potting or cultural guidance that I need to be aware of?

I am not a big fan of using so much sphagnum, but with the bark mix you put around the roots, it should be good at holding in some moisture and still giving plenty of air to the roots. I bet it will do really well potted this way. Give it lots of light.

No offence taken. I think your bulbo will do just fine. Since you are using alot of sphagnum, take note of the roots once in a while.
