    Default First Earned Blooms

I had a four way race going between 3 Phals and a Cattleya. I came back from travel on 2/4 and found the Cattleya (Lc Sakura sky x C. Horace Maxima) winning. I was quite pleased and then a bit disappointed when they finally opened. There are three blooms but they are so close together that I can barely tell one from another. One is actually blooming upside down.

February 18, 2011 -- we had a gift from Mother Nature and had a 75 degree F day in the middle of February. So I was able to take this outside.

Your flowers are lovely. Some use a stake with three rings to separate the buds. I have broke far too many trying to keep them from blooming like this. Now I just let them go into a huge bunch....and enjoy the color blast. lol

Beautiful catts, Some catts do bloom all bunched up like that and facing skywards. My Lc Marie Song does that(BTW it too has a beautiful perfume) and so I console myself by saying that it looks like a beautiful posy of flowers. Lol.

Congrats on your well earned blooms, and as everyone says rejoice for them. Their is a way you can get them to bloom perfectly, one is to rotate the pot evenly during bud development, so that all the buds get light from all the different angles, this prevents the bunching, another approach for sheathed catts, is to remove the sheath carefully, this gives the buds time to spread out and the last one is what Connie suggested, but you you are ought to break a few that way, so I personally avoid that.
