Encyclia cochleata: my first blooms! So proud!

I purchased this Encyclia cochleata almost 2 years ago, and had never seen it in bloom. It started looking like it might spike about 6 months ago, and.... finally!!!! It's in bloom with more to come! So excited, all my other flowers have been phals that came in bloom. This is the first time I DID IT!



Since I am so new... few questions while you're here. How long can I expect to enjoy these blooms? And can I move it while its blooming? It's up in a small bedroom window (the only one in the house that gets morning sunshine), but I'd like to enjoy it downstairs. But the last thing I want to do is shorten the bloom or injure the plant!

I have to 'bump' this along since I have not personally raised the Encyclia cochleata. Just wanted to say congratulations and tell you what a nice orchid you have there. I always did like octopus's. AL

My cochleata is sitting out back growing nicely but not blooming. Maybe it's in shock it isn't in Hawaii anymore...and i'm not as regular as it's previous owners. Maybe it doesn't feel like blooming. Whatever...i'm going to show it the above pics and try to convince it to bloom like yours. Great Job!

yours looks much better than mine! i suppose it doesnt help mine is just developing its 2nd pbulb.....
Also, you might want to change the tag on that too, its now Prosthechea cochleata....who wants to revolt on Kew? i might just search out dads shotgun.....

Way to go Diane. Really nice. I move my plants up from the basement when they bloom, no trouble there. Just do not sit it in a bright window. Also, the cooler you keep it the longer the blooms will last. Well, not in the fridge, ok?
