Very very beautiful!
Beautiful- and takes me back to the days before CITES - I was Secretary of a UK Orchid Society, and used to arrange an annual importation of orchids for members, collected from the Indian jungles ( supposedly - I think a lot were mass propagated in nurseries, and passed off as wild orchids ! - certaialy an awful lot were absolutely the same clone ) but I used to get these three or four tea chests arrive - plywood boxes about 2 foot x 2 foot x 2 foot - all stuffed full of orchids . For packing material they often used ferns and other things which I would pot up and use as foliage plants , or plant in the floor of my greenhouse. I well remember D.devonianianum, like long threads of thick string - often they flowered almost as soon as I took them out of the packing cases. Then I had to sort them out according to what had been ordered by whom - and take a car full of bundles to the next meeting, even ask other committee members to come and fill their car boots. Paph insigne was the cheapest about 10 pence ( English money - = 6 or 7 cents US) - but of course all values were very different then . As a highly paid, newly qualified specialist lawyer ( Patent Attorney) I got a whole US$200 per month...( equivalent) - about as much as I have to pay the mechanics at the local Mercedes dealership for one hours work now....but happy days remembered. Thanks for the pic !
Very very cute especially with those two yellow beauty spots.!!!!
oh thats a wonderful species, congrats!!!
Thanks friends for the kind words. I got this plant a year ago from a nursery in a NE state of our country. So far as a rank amateur not much success with the species I have so this must be the easier ones to bloom I guess! Hybrids though seem to be much easier to bloom and grow. Had left my plants under the care of my daily help for two weeks out on our apartment terrace so some of the buds fell off the canes, most are still there.
Wow so many buds there, really pretty.
So jealous! So many buds! Lovely dendrobe..I must say, this really is the season for dendrobes
