Cymbidium finlaysonianum

My Cymbidium finlaysonianum is in flower again, almost didnt noticed the spike in this one
as my Grammatophylum scriptum is hanging near this one also, I noticed a strange growth
rising from the Gramm, as first I thought that it may be a new root, but a strange one. So I
took another look and it turned out that its a spike from the Cym.

I took this photo last week, and just the other day wife told me that there is another spike
forming... I was so happy since this is the first time its given me 2 spikes.

awesome cymbidium, i want one of these my cymbs have two spikes, one of them green, the other a stark white. Both NOID's though!

I think finlaysonianum goes into alot of the miniature hybrids...my favorites through and through!

Jordan, this is not a small plant, its a huge one, weighs about >5kg, and the spike is about 3-3.5ft long.

ok then...lol i must have been thinking of ebernum or something. The flowers look similar though to most miniatures.

Hey Randy,

Nice growing there. Too bad our native cymbidums are just too darned HUGE for my grow area so I just have to shy off away from them. Looks like your plants are doing well in your grow area. My plants don't seem to flower these days as profusely as before - maybe because of my polycarbonate plastic roofing unlike your area which seems to get direct and/ore filtered natural sunlight.

Thanks guys, for some reason the 2nd spike is much shorter than the first one.... but still im happy with it as this is the first time i've gotten a 2nd spike fron this plant. Jojo, yes
these cyms can really get huge and with a limited grow space like ours this is becoming a space hog.

I grow this one in full sun for most of the day, and then moved it to a shady part when I've noticed the spike for better display... when the spike finishes, then it goes back to its
usual place.

They are nice! I never thought of hanging the cymbidiums! The flowers look prettier if the plants are hanged. Coz mine are potted and need to stake the flower spike, and since the flower is also green shade compared to the leaves, the flowers don't seem to be that attractive. But after seeing your way of doing it, it gives me a better idea of displaying my cymbidium. By the way, do they need any compost or just hanged like vandas do?
