Used to be called the Woolworth orchid... when we had Woolworths !
It grows cool , quite useless in my present set-up where I have just one temperature aimed at pleasing Vandas and cattleyas.
So when I moved here from my previous house whereI did have have several different greenhouses, maintained at quite different temperatures, I planted the potful out in the garden. Some years the new growths get caught by a late frost , or by wandering slugs, but this year I have maybe a dozen growths, spread over a small area, and can see the flowers ; just one stem shown here.

Hey, I remember when my neighborhood had a Woolworth's. We'd ride our bikes there and have a great time looking at stuff...then we'd buy snowcones to eat on the ride home!

Lovely orchid--I tried these once, but the did not like our heat at all!

oh yes. the good ol' striata! i have a huge clump measuring about 6 by 4 metres! looks nice in flower though!

my plants are growing in the garden for more then 10 years, despite frost of -17 °C. This spring time, in Germany, is very hot and also very dry. The new grow is coming up and I hope to see flowers end of June.

Lovely hardy garden orchid orchid here in PA. Always a treat to see bloom.
