I grow my orchids on an East facing pool enclosure in Central Florida. I have the Phals in the shadiest area with the Catts, Oncidiums and Cymbidiums in a position that gets full sun untill about 1pm. I have noticed what I think is sunburn on a few of the Catts. I just bought a light meter to help me insure they are getting the proper light. I have discovered that the light outside the enclosure is twice as bright as the area that is screened. I just got the meter and, of course, today it is overcast but I got a reading of 2500 where the Catts are located.. I will of course take more measurements on typically sunny days, But my question is "What is the ideal light level for the orchids, what is too bright, and how long of a period can they take the light?
