Mtps Grin
An old classic hybrid ; I just spotted this at a local Garden Centre, and could not resist . Nice spikes and flowers but awful roots. I put it straight into S/H , and it may take a couple of years to recover , or not... but it was a risk worth taking, as the almost plain pink kind of Mtps is not easy to find. In fact they are not easy to find at all in orchid nurseries for some reason (?), I get most from the big chain stores where they are sold as pretty plants to put on the table and throw away when the flowers are over, so they often have poor roots. Inside the pot can be anything - usually a sphagnum moss plug at the centre , with the moss going towards rotten, and any kind of compost around the outer part. I pick it off, slosh the roots to wash as much away as possible, repot in Perlite, plunge in nutrient/water and drain, then leave dry for a few weeks until , hopefully, new shoots and roots emerge - then into the water tray. About 9 out of 10 come through. When they double spike , that's good. When they are growing really well, every new lead will form a good bulb and even have four spikes.
Well, one can but dream......
