    Default Paph Susan Booth

I posted about this orchid in an earlier thread, but am just now getting to posting the photos. This paph was putting on a beautiful show with two full opened slipper orchid blooms and a third bud at the top starting to get puffy. - That was until I caught the third bud (top one) between my hand and the 5 gallon bucket of used bark I was moving. Long story short - I ripped off the top bud and toppled the plant onto the gravel of the greenhouse. The plant survived, but I thought I had better photograph it before the flowers fell off. It was so elegant too....

Thanks everyone. I love this slipper orchid and was so upset after breaking off the top bud. Oh well....

A very unique and pretty paph bloom, Bruce, sorry about the mishap but into every life a little poop must fall...I knocked over a phal the other day and every single bloom was damaged and it looked like it had survived a hurricane! I'm sure you have a much better batting average than I do! Best to you-Remo

Beautiful, quite rare and expensive Paph. Bruce don't wander like an elephant in the porcelain shop LOL, I hope the topple hasn't caused any permanent damage to the plant and that it will bloom with more vigor the next time.

Are all Susan Booth's doomed I wonder ?
In 1994 or therabouts, I put up (yet another) greenhouse in the garden where I lived, intending it for my phallies - a 10 x 12 foot wooden construction, polythene lined, electric heated.
I listened to a talk on the big multi-floral paph hybrids, and got the idea that they would like some extra heat too, beyond what they were getting in another greenhouse, so I moved a few plants in, including my biggest and best of this group - Susan Booth, in a 10 inch pot with about 4 flowering size growths and lots of others.
We had a bad winter, I went away for a long week-end, the 'stat failed, and when I got home the greenhouse had an extra lining - ice crystals.
Most of the phallies survived, and much else too . Susan B looked sorry for herself. I cut away all the blackened growths, still had two or three live fans of leaves, ....I still have the plant, it has still not got back to flowering size ! Patience is needed, it seems ; 17 years so far, and counting .
