any advice to talk a vanilla into flowering? its native to Taiwan so its in its homeland... its growing its booty off but no flowers! I've had it for 3 years and have had trouble with it growing into open areas and getting burned back by the summer sun but this year I got off my ass and covered it with shade cloth... any suggestions? I fertilize and water with water from my aquarium (bitchy fish require lots of water changes!)
'If you have everything right, its just time that can make the vanilla fall in love with you LOL ! Vanilla need to mature before they can flower anywhere between 3 to 7 years." -- Amey Bhide

I ndon't know, Shane, I think the vanilla heard you have a boyfriend and got burned up with jealousy.
The advice I have often heard is that if you have a healthy orchid that has not bloomed for you, try more light. But it sounds like you have tried plenty of light and that hasn't produced results. How often do you fertilize and in what doses?
Vanilla is a huge vine and need to be many meters long before it can flower. I have read in a manual for cultivating commercial vanilla that pinching the top growth MAY result in more branches and spikes, but must be done in the correct season...
I concur with paphioboy, in the wild I saw the plants producing flowers after reaching certain meter and also depend on the species some of them very stingy to produce spikes.
ya ya ya....BUT I WANT FLOWERS NOW!!!!!i dont care what laws of nature i need to break to make it happen....muahhahahaha!
