one of my recent addition not too long ago but unfortunately it came with very poor rooting system, shaky plant and embedded in heavy sphagnum moss that spells "trouble". that would explain the shriveling of the bulb. waiting for the bloom to end and will be removing it from the media A.S.A.P.

Hi ian. I can relate. I think it verges on trauma when a special plant has culturing problems that risks its well being. I have started to become especially interested in catas, cycn and stanhops. having done my research on their special needs i have a further 6 catas varieties on the way. One thing that concerns me being new to culturing catas is that its ending july and some are only just shooting. Does this mean they will just have a short year and i put them thru the dry spell as normal in Dec till next shoot in spring ( April ish).????? My cycnoche has grown well and accept that its performing as should be.

I do like the lip on this catasetum orchid. Too bad its roots were in bad shape. Hope you save it.

can't help you much here Matt, we have tropical climate here so i totally had no idea what is it like to grow catasetums in area with different season throughout the year. perhaps someone could chime in here.

i am keeping my finger cross for this one coz the rooting system is really poor. just dug up the entire plant two days ago and trimmed all the roots away. hope they will send out keiki soon safely.
