Tillandsia chandelier

Went to the Erie County Botanical Garden today and saw THIS:



That's a chandelier covered with tillandsia and Spanish moss. I want to make one!

hi victoria. Great photo. I love the spanish moss and tillandsia. I have it incorporated in and amongst my mounted orchids. I think it works wonderfully adding significantly to the aesthetic value and complimenting each other. Very recently sifting through the forum I noticed one member saying how her/his tillandsia was disapproved of and should stick to orchids alone and not together????????????????. Would definetly love a set up like the one in the picture!

People are such purists. The other day someone asked me whether I was a species person or a hybrid person -- I'm a person who likes plants I can grow that look cool. I can totally imagine someone getting really agitated at growing other epiphytes in with your orchids. . . but I think that's silly.

I've looked at tillandsia off and on for a couple years. Not sure where I could put them in my apartment to get them enough light, but I'm really tempted now to find some interesting old object at an antique store and mount them all over it like the pic up there.

Very beautiful ! I like tillandsias they add so much character and a feel of in situ to orchids LOL. Even when mounting an orchid just add some tillandsias and from a nice mount, your mount becomes a mind blowing one. Spanish moss is also a natural moss with which orchid roots like to grow and intermingle.

Orchid growing would be rather dull and limited if we weren't allowed to appreciate the other plants that live around them. At the Atlanta Orchid Conservatory, they add lots of bromeliads to their exhibits in the summer when fewer orchids are in bloom. Personally, I love tillandsias - I have one in a hanging ball - like mistletoe, one in a small conch shell, and 5 potted broms - 3 of the little tilllandsias with bright pink oval centers with bright blue flowers (can't remember exactly what they're called), and 2 magnificent broms in 6" pots with red stalks (I think they're called Guzmans). If I had to complain about them, it would only be that they use up space where I could put more orchids! I'll pos pics when I have a chance.
