Define rare. Rare as in endangered in the wild or uncommon in collections? For rare in the wild, look up species in CITES Appendix I and II.

Some species are supposedly rare in the wild but are pretty common in collections, like paphiopedilum species, peristeria elata and some bulbophyllums (that I can think of now).
wow, thats going to be a lanog list!
My rare beauts:
Danhatchia australis-Nationally uncommon.
Diplodium puberula-Nationally critical.
Drymoanthus flavus-Uncommon is suitable habitat, sparse.
Nematoceras dienemum-it likes to be kept in the freezer for 8 months of the year. My 3 specimens are JUST holding onto life...Globaly critical-i actually grow these successfully and the NZ Department of Conservation sends 3 of its tiny bulbs to the island each year, each bulb produces two and then dies, so i get to keep three, DOC takes the rest.
Townsonia deflexa-Uncommon in suitable habitat.
-These are all native NZ orchids, and rescues from native bush destined to become farmland, except for Nematoceras dienemum-that is a native of the Macquarie Island in the Antarctic ocean, and i got this from a fellow OS member who requested one to reproduce to boost numbers a few years back.
Cypripedium acaule-incredibly rare in NZ. A family member bought back a flask and luckily, 4 survived, and they are growing nicely in a big tub.
Cypripedium kentuckiense-also incredibly rare in NZ, and it likes it warm too. again, a family member bought back a flask, and one survived. None of the cyps have bloomed for me yet.
Odontoglossum ariasii-also incredibly rare in NZ
Paphiopedilum victoria-mariae-also incredibly rare in NZ
wow it's a long list, Jordan. Thanks paphioboy will look up CITES I and II
Unfortunately in retail, "rare" usually refers to something for which a vendor wants to jack up the prices. I encourage anyone to do some research before spending extra money for that which might not be so rare after all.
For me, personally, the rare orchids are the ones I bring home and they actually decide to flower!!

Yea, these are all confirmed uncommon, rare or endangered according to New Zealand Law. As for the other 4, they are just really rare as plants in New Zealand, because no-one has really bothered to import them. And i think Odontoglossum ariasii is rare in the wild as well, either that or rare in cultivation.
Rare is any orchid I don't have and wish I did!
Jose
Even rarer than yours Jose is any orchid that will grow AND flower in my shade house
