Paphs don't get any better than this.
Interesting too, to see the split ventral sepal on the lowest pic ; it doesn't happen very often - I have seen it maybe half a dozen times out of the thousands of paphs I have looked at or grown ( many of which have the letters R.I.P. after their name in my mind ).
It's the reason why slippers can even be counted as orchids at all ( in the mind of many orchidophiles) ; after all, consider, what is the basic shape of any and every orchid ? Why its three sepals, plus two petals and a lip arranged as two consective rings along the axis of the plant ... ( and then you go on to the column/fused anthers etc ) .
But most paphs only have two sepals .
Taxonomists say, " ah thats because two have fused together to make the ventral" - and occasionally they become unfused - to prove that ( after all ) they do know what they are talking about... ( Sorry you chaps at Kew etc , I do love to pull your leg occasionally )
Such cool details in this paph orchids bloom. Very nice.
cheers,
