This plant recently bloomed with 8 flowers. I notice that one does not have a lip. I don't think a criiter ate it, so could this be some type of genetic defect?
I haven't seen this before.

I've no clue...but gosh, the pore lil thing looks kinda nekkid, doesn't it???
I just assumed it got "lippy" with you and you showed who's boss, Dave.
"Lipless" cattleyas are not so uncommon. That flower could not remember how to make a lip, that's all. Next bloom will be normal. Are you using any chemicals?

Am I using any chemicals? Well I did drop a little acid back in the 60's. There may have been some cannabis in Nam but I've been clean for a while. Oh, maybe you meant for the PLANT! I use MSU fertilizer and a little touch of methane.
Haha, I think it normal for a plant to have weird flowers sometimes(NOT ALWAYS) I had a Phal. had to flower stuck!!
It should be normal the next blooming.
