    Default Paphiopedilum spicerianum

Hi y'all - this is one of three paphs from my Christmas spree - I fell in love with the dorsal sepal when I photographed a bunch of them at the conservatory - so now I have my own! Really hoping to keep it alive - this is only the 2nd species paph I've had (delenatii is the other one). We're having trouble keeping the humidity above 50% in the growing area right now, and the paphs especially tend to dry out really fast. I'm not sure the perspective shows that the dorsal on this particular plant is larger than usual, and the purple stripe running through it is wider than others I've seen on Orchidwiz and other places. And it has about 7 growths - 4 new ones!

Nice species to have for a paph grower! If you shoot the photo from the top of the flower or the back side of the flower, it will show off the unique aspect of the flower.

Great paph orchid to add to your collection, Maura. I have a couple of these and both bloom just a bit differently. I just think they are the most beautiful slippers!

    cheers,

Thanks for the photo tip, Tom. We puzzled over how to capture this unusually-shaped paph for hours, and shot it from every angle with the exception of the top and the back. I guess we were compromising, trying to show most of its attributes in one or two shots. When we have a chance to use you method, I'll post them on this thread.
