Aerangis fastuosa

A small plant ( always) and with flowers almost as big as the plant - as you can see. According to the book ( Stewart, Hermans et al ) it can have as many as five flowers per spike on some varieties, but " more work needs to be done on these varieties in the field".
It comes from Madagascar exclusively, in a strip between the mountains and the coast .
The long nectary spur is of course typical of these angraecoid orchids.
This is a young plant flowering for the first time - I expanded my Aerangis section considerably after some success with some of the other species in the genus , this being one of the plants I bought last Summer.
Plant maybe 4 or 5 inch span, the flower about two inches, although it would be bigger if it opened flatter - but this semi-opening is a feature of the plant.

Beautiful, Geof. I find whites like this are often difficult to photograph well ... being such a pristine white, the light tend to glare off them considerably.

It grows on the shadier side of my greenhouse, mounted on bark ( cork oak) , with no pad of sphagnum or anything ( not ideal - but I haven't found a better mount for Aerangis yet - still looking )- and is sprayed more or less daily ( rain water with some Physan equivalent always added in attempt to avoid leaf spotting from bacteria - although these thicker leaved plants do not suffer this way) occasionally gets a dip in the usual nutrient/water mix.
