Grow areas moved out of the greenhouse

I am done! The shelves have been rolled out, cleaned up and re-re-re-arranged. As long as we don't have any really bad storms i'm done for a couple weeks. I love this time of year. As I move my plants I assess their new growth, bugs and this year, spikes and buds. I really wanted to make sure and thank Cathy and Rich. Between her advice and his generosity my plants are really amazing this year; thank you both!

There are cattleya everywhere on the porch...



The dendrobium area with more cattleya. Also; the lone cymbidium is my suprise bloomer for the year. The spike is coming along nicely...my first cymbidium rebloom!



I used the area between a huge palm and the bbq for a couple vanda and a few more cattleya...as well as my sad looking pitcher plant.



...And lastly the Vanda section...with a few more cattleya. I'm hoping this area isn't too shaded for the vanda. Where I bought my Aerides they had them in pretty much full sun.



Now that i'm done moving things around I should have some time to repot! lol I'll catch up some day...

It took 3 days because I kept running the battery on my wheelchair down. lol The last time I came in yesterday the poor chair was barely moving.

Rolling racks are nice, but if you aren't careful you end up doing a ton of repotting. I've learned how to arrange them so I don't end up leaving a trail of fallen plants. Thanks all for the comments...I love working with my orchids.

We get a good amount of wind here so I use lots of 'clips' instead of relying on the hooks that are on wire hangers. They are fall proof...well, unless the entire unit takes a tumble! I dunno what they are called so I'll post a pic of them...not exactly the cheapest solution, but certainly secure!Posted via Mobile Device

I'll keep these in mind next trip to the flea market...they have these guys that sell all kinds of stuff like these. I actually resorted to using twine to tie mine to the shelves. I also wove twine in and out between the vanda so they would all be secure in a storm. Pretty much if the shelves stay standing I should be good. I keep having this bad feeling i'm going to find them all in the pool some morning.

Maybe you should sink some hooks into your patio as well! I still can't wait for that to be my problem but it's looking like next year...
