Coelia is a small genus which has been a football of taxonomists for some time , and hopefully has now settled back where it will stay – which is where it started (!) - , after moving through a series of label changes. Judging by the books, three of the five species are worth growing – I have collected these, but not yet flowered one of them ( macrostachys). This one – triptera -seems quite prolific – some bulbs double spiked, and I have quite a lot of flowers out here ( 7 spikes) . Individual flowers only 1 cm across, but the massed effect quite pretty in a quiet way, I think.
