Ascocentrum... maybe? any id ideas?

i picked this up and was told it is a taiwan native, crosschecking with a 'complete' list of native taiwanese orchids the only thing close i could imagine it to be is an Ascocentrum, but the plant seems quite big, i thought most of the ascocentrums were pretty smallish... but im sure thats just a lack of knowledge on my part... it has a spike forming so i guess i'll know more when the flowers start showing...

There are only about 10 species of Ascocentrum, so narrowing it down would be quite easy. The only Ascocentrum with flat strap leaves like that (that I know of) would be ampullaceum, but I can't imagine ampullaceum having leaves as large as your plant. Please post pictures of the blooms when they open up!

see, thats what i was thinking but i the dealer swore up and down it was a native taiwan mountain orchid... looking as vandaceous as it does, the potting of it really confused me...i'll do what i can to keep it happy and see what comes out of it!

I'm going to suggest that it might be a Vandopsis, although I'm not sure any are native to Taiwan. At least one of those species grows as a terrestrial (lissochiloides).

well holy sheep shit! it think you got that right on the money michael!!! i double checked and
Vandopsis gigantea
Vandopsis lissochiloides
Vandopsis parishii
are all listed as being on taiwan's flora list... and i am extremely pleased with that accidental purchase!!! i'll try to find an appropriate time to call the vendor and work my chinese to it's fullest to try and confirm... thanks for the suggestion, i really think you nailed it!
