Take your pick about the correct colour, its somewhere between these versions – the background is light grey card – the same card in all the pics. The limitations of digital photography make one realise why the RHS sticks to colour paintings for its records.

I think that almost all of my vandaceous plants - certainly including this - are potted mostly in ordinary plastic plant pots, occasionally in baskets or net pots - but never grown bare root. ( Aerangis, which are technically vandaceous are not - they are mostly on bark plaques). My compost varies from chunky pine or fir bark, used alone, to medium size bark - thick flake-like pieces the size of a finger nail but only say 1/4 as thick as they are wide, used alone, or sometimes mixed with very coarse Perlite ("sponge rock") and maybe charcoal. A few thiungs are in spagnum , which nowadays I don't mix with anything, although in the past I have mixed it with Perlite or woith bark.
I breckon you can work out a scale or range of mixtures from these variables - the coarseness or otherwise, and the accessibility of air ( or spray ) when using baskets. If I think a plant is being kept too wet, then I go to the coarse mix or the net pot or basket, and vice versa. I also take root thickness and quantity into account in deciding which to use - thickest roots - coarsest compost, and vice versa.

Beautiful! Pine Rivers is one of my favorite vascostylis. My fushia version stays in bloom for about 8 months each year with a new spike growing before the flowers on the old spike dies. I've been looking for a good 'blue' version and yours certainly looks like a good quality flower. Congratulations on the new blooms.
