Encyclia are now quickly becoming my favorite orchids...

I have started mounting what I can to cut down on the bug issues in the media. This orchids seem to put out roots less than a week after being mounted! I am just in love with them now. The first one I mounted has tons of roots attached to the cork bark in less than a month. The ones I picked up at my Houston Orchid Society meeting last week are already putting out roots! I just want to hug them every time I go out onto my deck!

Enyclia love being mounted and in baskets. And obviously this one is happy with it's new mount. I love watching them grow as well.

so, can these stay out there year round in Houston? if not, where do they live in the winter? I love orchids on mounts, but in Upstate NY, a greenhouse is kind of necessary.....at home , my orchids are living and happy on my deck, but winter means they are on the other side of the window.....I love seeing your mounts...! Jenny

Not year round. While it is hot to warm here most of the year, for a few months we get cold weather. I will most likely need to bring them in around November or December. They will most likely go back outside in April. This is my first year with them so I really don't know where they will be in the winter! lol
