I thought by now I wouldn't have much problems with spider mites that seem to love the hot and dry environment. One of my rooms have lots of light and it gets really hot, so I started using humidity trays everywhere in the house no matter what. I was watering every other week but since this year has been awfully hot, I started watering once a week leaving all my orchids in water from 30 minutes to one hour.
If the medium stays humid too long you get fungus gnats and if it's dry you get spider mites! I just cannot get to a middle point! haha
What can I do? I'm using neem oil and it seems to work well, but is it ok to use it on a regular basis to avoid the pest?
Now, are they really spider mites? I cannot see them until I notice the damage on the leaves, and when I use a cotton swab with either rubbing alcohol or neem oil, something reddish comes out of them, like red/orange dust.
Should I use a humidifier in the house? I have electronics everywhere, can they get damaged by the humidity? Pardon my ignorance!
This thing is really annoying me to the point that I've been considering to get rid of lots of my orchids.
Thank you all.
