    Cool Dendrobium Chao Praya Blue and Dendrobium No Names

    It is dendrobium blooming time here. I've lost count on how many dendrobiums I have now, but it is somewhere around 15-20, with at least a dozen in bloom right now. Florida weather and dendrobiums are a perfect match. I just decided to remove some of my very large canes that go opposite direction as the rest of the plant. I am going to put them in a group and when they start new roots they will get attached to palm trees around the yard. Next summers' dendrobium pictures should be cool....if I can keep the snails away from them!

    First, my dark beauty; Dendrobium Chao Praya Blue..

    When I went outside this morning I found one of my babies from Rich pretending to be an acrobat. I have no idea how it keeps getting knocked over, but I suspect it is by the same creature that made a dinner of my Angraecum longiscott flowers.

    The 'Acrobat' has very pretty pink petals. Similar to a much larger plant I have with delicate pink flowers. However; this plant seems to have a pattern to it's flowers that make it much different and unique. (p.s....thanks Rich, this is one of your babies first flowers)

    Another Dendrobium Noid...the pink on this is so delicate the sun is washing the color out. I will have to get a few more pics as it blooms out that show the color better. The flowers on this one are quite large compared to some of these i've seen.

    I will do one more post...still a few more to show. I love my dendrobiums whether they come with a proper tag or not. They are such a wonderful display every fall....

    This is the large pink no name Dendrobium that looks like my little 'Acrobat' (as I think I will nickname the seedling den). Obviously, the baby has a long way to go to catch up with this big boy.

    And a group shot of a few I have moved together for a nice back porch display. The sun has gotten so strong, all but the most sun tolerant plants have had to be moved back farther under the porches cover. It looks like I may have bought a few too many Cattleya this last year. lol They are taking over...

    Another picture of the large pink no name that my little 'Acrobat' resembles. The large Dendrobium sitting in front of it is my Dendrobium Sato that gets pure white flowers. It is just beginning to throw a few spikes. It took a break during the summer, it is one of my winter blooming dendrobiums.

    This is an example of a plant that needs to have a few canes removed. When they get this straggly it is hard to find a place to put them...other than the top of the shelf. lol It will be so nice to get them cleaned up and much easier to handle finding a place to sit them!

    Nice deep color on that first one ... though how "blue" got in the name mystifies me.

    Connie, Congrats on a great show of your Dens. I started my collection with Dendrobium and they are now the largest part, I would guess somewhere between 70-80 plants. They are easy to grow and are very rewarding with their blooms. Thrips love the flowers, so I have had a not so good year.
    Your "acrobat" bloom looks like Den. Candy Stripe. Check it out.

    Great collection of Dendrobiums, love your Chao Praya Blue and I agree it's that time of the year for them here in Florida I have a few of them spiking too and your idea of attaching them to palm trees would be great, the ones in my palm trees are thriving.

    I have several with tags that say Candy Stripe. Mine look like this though...my little guy even has a different shape to the flower. Thanks for the try...those no name dens are hard to tag if the nursery doesn't know. I don't mind...they give a good show anyways.

    they are all great, and what a display on your porch I know where I would be all the time. I have to agree with Angela thrips seem to love my dens I'm lucky if they give me 3 blooms on a stem. beautiful, thanks for sharing

    I switched my spraying schedule to once a week all summer and so far the bugs are staying away.
