Is this an insect egg?

I've seen a few of these on my Rhynchostylis gigantea a month ago and removed them. Today I found one on my Brassavola nodosa. I've only seen them singly out in the open on a leaf, never in clumps. I also haven't seen any insects, besides very small snails.

Can anybody identify the culprit? Should I take a specific action?

Quick followup: the egg is about the size of a ball point pen tip. Also, I haven't noticed any leaves being eaten.

Does look like an egg but as for what kind of insect can't say. There are a number of different species -- both beneficials and pests -- that lay single eggs. Though if memory serves well, the predatory beneficials are most likely to lay eggs singly. (Prevents hatchlings from eating each other or eating any unhatched eggs.)
