    Default Dendrobium anosmum 'alba'

'Spring' is almost here in S E Asia - the drought and cooler 'winter' months of Dec - Feb are about to end, and this period will herald the blooming of many of our soft cane dendrobiums as well as our vandaceous species and hybrids. Those who have prepared well by withholding watering of these orchids will be well rewarded with a profusion of blooms, but those of us (including myself) who have been tardy or lazy may not be able to enjoy the spring blooms at their best. I have been late in withholding the watering and so, many of my dendrobiums have produced keikis instead of flowers. This is the worst blooming of my Den anosmum 'alba' -only 5 flowers on a single cane!

I managed to hide my Den. aggregatum on myself...I kept it in the garage this year by a window. For the first time I got a spike. It encouraged me. I may try a couple like yours this year. They are the most wonderful scented flowers! I like that yours is pure white...very pretty!

Yes Deepak. I mount all my species dendrobium. I was lucky to get the lopped-off branches of teak trees when the trees were pruned in the housing estate where I live.

    Very beautiful pristine white flowers
I think it is one of the hardest things growing these beautiful dens to know when to stop watering and not to let them dry out either
Hope the keikis will flower in the next years

Thanks Jan. Actually for me the period for withholding watering is not so hard to determine because I live in the NW of Peninsular Malaysia, which has pretty much a climate quite close to that of Thailand where most of the deciduous dendrobiums are found. We have a dry 'winter' where almost no rain falls for 3 months from Dec-Feb and night temperatures may go 23-25 C as opposed to the rest of the year with 30-32 C. This is the time to withhold watering by shifting these deciduous dends to another part of the grow area which does not receive the normal daily 2-3 waterings. Due to my lazy nature I often do not perform this simple little task which involves about 20-30 plants (dends and catasetums). This year I did shift them but a little later than I should have. Any way I'm hoping for the best.
