Miltoniopsis Red Delight

Large flowers . Over 5 inches north-south, and a count of 5. Not bad, even if I do say it as shouldn't. Growing nicely in S/H using Leca as the medium. Not a large bulb, so can do better - those who have seen these on sale coming from the plant factories, e.g. in The Netherlands, will know that when grown supremely well, they can do four spikes per bulb, but in ordinary amateur growing conditions, two is very good indeed.
usually when I show Miltoniopsis I get a lot of comments abou them being cool orchids ( cool growing) but in fact I grow them with my Cattleyas and Vandas - all at the same temperature, and The Eric Young Foundation which has been doing some breeding in this group, grows them with Phalaenopsis , believing them to be warm growing orchids.

Nice color! I love the "waterfalls" on some of these hybrids!

I know when it comes to species Miltonia grow warmer than Militoniopsis species.

Wow that's really interesting. Waiting to see what my milt will do... I try to keep it cool, it has nice new growth on either side of the plant right now

beautiful color and markings, I've tried 2 Miltonias and they went south pretty quick, could be it was my inexperience, but they hated the summer

The red color is so intense I like it but cant bloom here.

Beautiful, Geoff. 18 - 26 C .. I think you will call that warm and that is our 'cool' highlands where we grow our tea, cymbidiums,roses, chrysanthemum, hippaestrum, miltoniopsis, vuylstekeara and phalaenopsis. But the lowlands where I live is hot..... 26 - 36 C the whole year round. I have killed all my Miltoniopsis but my Miltonia Purple Queen thrives and blooms away happily. Can't even get my my large white and pink phalaenopsis to bloom regularly. I have the greatest respect for the Eric Young Foundation ... I bet with all their hi-tech gizmos to control the micro climate they could even bloom the Rhizantella gardneri.

But it would not make a good display plant !
Thinks...I must print a few labels with that name, and put them on the pots where the orchid has died off and left no trace. Who can deny the correct naming ?

Beautiful! Love the backs of the bloom just as much as the fronts! So pretty.
