Weather not cooperating

Hello everyone, I can not remember it ever taking so long to warm-up in the north east.
I never can wait to put my plants outside and most of the time I put them out alittle to early
but this year has not been to helpful as far as getting them outside. I do have some cooler orchids out but most are still inside. I am just wondering how some of you are doing as far as getting them out, at least the members how summer their orchids outside. Would like to here from you. THANKS HANK......

Weather "not cooperating? You should have seen the size of the snowflakes falling at my folks' place on Mother's Day! (Saw some that were at least 2inches across!) Don't put many orchids out for the summer -- there simply isn't enough space on my apt balcony. And the fact that my SE exposure gets full, unobstructed sun from around 8am until 2 or 3pm makes it far too intense for many chids. I do have my cacti/succulents and a few other highlighters out already. Won't bother bringing them in unless temps take a long very chilly dive.

The weather in Chicago has not been much better. Our March was colder than January, and April had below average temperatures. Now with May here, we just skipped Spring and now the temperatures have been in the 80s deg F.

I grow my plants in a sunroom, so the impact has not been significant.

I put mine out and then we had a cold spell so I covered most of the tougher orchids with clear plastic, put the tougher tropicals on the porch, then brought in the orchids and plants I felt would suffer. I covered exerything in the herb/flower garden each evening that would have suffered from frost. Surprisingly, everyone is fine...except we won't have any apricots and very few peaches due to the hard frost. Hope we at least get some apples. : |

We had our coldest weather the last wek of March, which is late for us, and in the first few weeks of May we were having night temps in the 60's, which is low for this time of year
