Ascofinetia Cherry Blossom "Carmela"

the plant is much more robust than the other couple neofinetia hybrids i have, but the flowers are tiny, and not fragrant. bummer as it puts out a ton of little flowers. flowers are only about a half an inch or so. 2 spikes. first blooming, so not bad, and will probably get better in time. the photo is sort of deceptive, this plant is only in a 2 inch pot. about a 5" leaf span.

this and the nakamotoara i posted are my first foray into mini vanda types. i'm definitely going to get a few more, but will try for fragrant types. this one has supposedly been crossed back to the neofinetia and came out with some scent, so at some point i will track one down. i still need to get a full neofinetia too, i hear they have a strong scent. and their other hybrids do well outdoors here too. it seems like they would be more available locally, but the orchid market here is really stuck on cymbidiums and phals. and mostly all you can find currently are those dang dyejobs. i did give this one vanda light, not sure if it needed it, but it liked it. i don't think regular neos need so much light. i'm not a fan of pink myself, so i hope hybridizers keep working with this one to get some more colors (i heard of an apricot version with scent??) and fragrance going.

I don't do well with the regular neofinitea. Our heat melts the poor things. Overall though the mini vanda are my favorite plants. They have always been great little bloomers and growers. I have two of this type, one I bought and one that was given to me. Both love to bloom and i'm with you, I wish they had a scent as well.
