can someone recommend a hardy orchid from Brazil

My son will be visiting Brazil next week. He will be in Rio De Janeiro and some surrounding areas. I've asked him to purchase an orchid and have the nursery ship the plant to me.
I have more than enough cattleyas and hybrids in this family.
Can anyone recommend a hardy orchid that would grow well in North Carolina? I summer the orchids outside but have natural and artificial lighting for the winter.
Are there any Brazilian epidendrums that grow well in the states?

well, if you were to ask me, i would say get the CATASETUMS. haha ....

If not a cattleya, then a slipper orchid. I would suggest a Phragmipedium slipper orchid. I have Phrag caricinum which is a bit difficult sometimes, but it blooms regularly. If I was going to Brazil, I would probably see if I could get Phrag vittatum because of the unique bloom.

I love the Cattleya maxima...there are two varieties, high altitude and coastal low altitude. I also am in love with anything Laelia purpurata. Their tall paddle leaves are beautiful and their flowers are like a fine piece of artwork.
