encyclia cochleata??

i got this last fall out of bloom, being told it was a dendrobium... lol... i figured it was a cockleshell type encyclia from the sheaths. it is a division of an old plant, potted in potting soil. not sure, probably cochleata? i see it now listed as Anacheilium cochleatum. i've also seen Epi cochleatum and Prosthechea cochleatum. all the same plant. but it could be a hybid like 'green hornet' possibly?

flower is fragrant slightly. not entirely pleasant. like perfume and dead animal. weird. i watched the flower 'pop' open a few nights ago as the sun was setting. it is about 2 inches tall. 2 more spikes (one had no sheath, but spiked) and 4 new growths coming out. this lived outdoors in dappled shade all winter. i call him Squidward.

I love the name you gave it! Too cute... I need to buy a new one...the old one died of a bug attack or rot awhile back. I miss the weird little flowers...yours is too cool. Nice job!

I googled Anacheilium cochleatum and Squidward popped up! the name Squidward is very appropriate!

second flower has opened, scent much stronger, perfume-like, but a strange quality, sort of a rancid smell, like someone used perfume to cover a foul scent. not strong enough to be unpleasant, but a bit off. i think this is indeed 'green hornet' after all. the flower shape and size seems distinct from the species. smaller hood/lip, same coloring. i will post another photo when it has a few more flowers open.

The presentation of the flower remind me the sea creature... Octopus try to run away from the predator, lovely.

Nice flower, i call it a hooded ghost.
Why mine has no scent? Or it spreads the fume on certain time of the day?
