    Unhappy Pleiones not flowering

Does anyone know why two of my pleiones might be sending up leaves but no flowers. All my others are flowering with out any trouble. We have had a strange weather this spring and my orchid friends are telling me that some of their early flowering orchids are late and late ones are flowering, could this be the problem?

If it has already flowered it is probably throwing out leaves as it produces bulbs

Flowering occurs only when the year before has been farvourable and the wintertime cold and dry enough. You're in NZ so (if you're not living abouve Auckland) winters are good enough that you don't need to put your winterbulbs in the fridge. But in general a good filled bulb should give you flowers in the spring. Or your non flowering Pleines are in the group of autumn flowering ones like maculata and praecox. Have a look on the web and find the recipe that fits you!

Oh and one thing for the spring flowering species: don't water the bulb and potting material until the flower bud is visable. Only put your pot in a layer of water of 1 cm so the roots have to search for moist but are not moist itself!

Just a dip in water, not continuously. Your potting material should stay dry!

Thank you for all your help Orchidmorris and Katherine. Orchidmorris can you tell me if the autumn pleiones flower once they have leaves? I think I might have given them a bit too much water but then I have over 40 different kinds of pleiones and they are all being watered the same. They are all flowering like last year but only two are sending up just leaves. I would have to go out to the orchid house to see which ones they are so could tell you later. Thank you again.
