Angraecum didieri - In bud again already?

I haven't heard of this type blooming twice a year. In fact, they can be difficult to bloom from what I'd heard before. For some unknown reason mine has decided to grace me with another bud already. It bloomed in June this summer so I'm not sure why it's doing this again so soon. And I've included a picture of the roots. This plant has the bumpiest roots!







Also, the flowers are normally slow growing. In spite of the fact I only found the bud yesterday, it looks nearly ready to open. Several plants have surprised me with buds or spikes that i'd missed recently. The last picture is from today. You can see it is beginning to open.

Really cool! Please post a photograph when it blooms! I love orchids from the Angraecum genus. (I have the two versions of Angraecum sesquipedale as young plants).

I have one Sesqupedale, the Crestwood var. Mine is getting to be humongous! I just took these pics a few days ago. It it gets much larger it's going to need to put it into a basket.

OMG.....That is one big plant...and very healthy. My two are literally tiny weeny babies in comparison to this magnificent specimen. I bet it is glorious when in bloom! Out of interest, how old is it?

I bought it in bloom two years ago I believe. It was half this size when I bought it. And I have a Vandopsis out there that I bought a few years ago that will be this size someday. I have a few babies myself, but usually I try to buy them adult size. I am fortunate to live in Florida where the plants are easily found at local nurseries. Also my backyard is an ideal growing area for them. I have tons of sunlight and air movement back there is nearly constant. I don't have to do much other than move them to keep them from burning and water and spray them to keep them growing and pest/virus free. I try to warn others living in other areas not to judge their plants inferior...I just have the optimim growing environment and mine are usually adults to begin with as well. I also don't try to raise anything that needs anything more than an over wintering in a greenhouse to keep warm. If a plant doesn't grow well in my climate I won't buy them. It give me more time to enjoy them and less fussing over them.

Well, I still salute your standard of cultivation even though you live in a great climate. Orchids still need alot of care, even if the ambient humidity/temperature and light are stable. I understand your point..I keep Vandas (which are probably one of the worst orchids to try to keep in the UK)..However I love them. It was the blue Vanda that ignited my interest in orchids to be honest, and I have read that gene sequencing of the blue Vanda is revealing interesting facts - such as anti aging properties. I love Angraecum sesquipedale because of its beauty, and connection with Charles Darwin and his theories of evolution.

And one day I plan to get/create a proper orchid house. And all my orchids will then be able to live in conditions that will make them most happy.

I'm hoping for blooms next season. Angrecoids are really hard to find here and those that are available are usually too expensive for me.

I've been lucky enough to collect a couple and I adore them. Once they are reasonable size they are fun to watch grow. I look forward to seeing the pictures of yours as well. Best of luck...I hope they reward you with their lovely flowers soon.
