Rescued NoID Phal

I recently rescued this (yet another! about 5 total rescues now.) phal at the grocery store for 3 bucks. It had been exposed to cold as the buds had blasted (except for one bud) and had a bit of cold damage at the ends of a couple of leaves. I performed a bit of surgery, repotted it out of 100% sphag moss and gave it the care it needed. I also have located it to the edge if my new lighted grow area.

It has rewarded me by blooming the remaining, undamaged bud. I hope it opens just a bit more and flattens out the petal edges.

It's a very pretty color and quite possibly showing some cold damage. I have a NOID that looks pretty much just like it. It was also a rescue cheapie! Let me see if I can find a picture... (BTW, it starts out more yellow - almost neon - and matures to this color.)

Yes, that bud was cold damaged. The next blooming under your good care should produce a much more flat bloom. Good luck and congratulations on the new addition and save!

It does have a different shape to the flower, now that it is fully open. The color when freshly open is very similar. Very pretty! I'm glad it opened all the way for you.

Terp, I would cut that spike off and let the plant recover to bloom next year...it should look like Carollla's. Your flower is definitely stunted. Give it a good feed, and it should be beautiful next time!
