Gongora Histrionica

Harry Potter isn't the only one who sees Dragons, though my Dragons only spit fire after a wee bit to much of the whiskey you know.................These bloom every season (late winter into spring). After their first year with me they really took off and produced many spikes month after month for about four months. Since repotting it has slowed down. Enjoy........AL

Looks great. Few of the leaves tip seems have a yellow'ed. too much of sun ?. thanks for sharing

Those leaves are old and may of even come that way a few years ago when I got the orchid. It does a lot of back bulbs also (leafless). Thanks for your kind comments! AL

LOVE Gongora! One of my favorite genera. How's the fragrance on this one? Understand it has a vanilla scent.

Saw a Gongora at a show last week -- though I can't remember which species -- that smelled strongly of clove.
Used to have a chocoensis ... awesome large (for Gongora) flowers. Only down side was that that particular species is one the few Gongora that has no scent.

The pbs are quite attractive too, IMO, Harvey. One disadvantage is that, like other members of the Stanhopea alliance, the flowers are rather short-lived.

Hi Paul if you said the smell is like clove so that species is Gongora claviodora well I like it so much very free flowering in lowland .

Ya Paul a week to 10 days maximum, but as I say when there real happy plants they can keep putting out spikes. I also must say that I don't smell any fragrance from these flowers, though real mild scents I may miss altogether. I'll smell taste the blooms using someone else who has a better nose than I do and see what they say. Thanks again.....................AL

Well early this afternoon I took a whiff of the Gongora flowers and your right Paul, they do smell like cloves. AL

Thanks, Zain. However, I'm not sure that was what it was. The photos I have seen of claviodora do not match the flowers I saw, and I do know there are a couple other Gongora that also have the scent of cloves (like G. tricolor). The flowers I saw were very pale -- mostly white with lavender/purple flecks. However, it is possible that it may have been a semi-alba variety.
