Dendrobium repotting Question!

I have a dendrobium that has grown in a straight line, I have it in a wooden basquet. And I have noticed that there is no more room for new growth. I know how difficult it is to repot a Dend. Any recommendations on how to repot with minimal damage to roots?
Some of its roots are attached to the basquet, so I'm not sure if I should repot or leave as is.

don't repot it,but cut the rhyzome some 3-4 bulbs from the lead.This should course an eye to come away on the rear section of the plant.

I have cut out the slat that stops the new growth then set the current basket in a larger one and fill in the gaps with mix . Gin

no need to do that .I have seen them turn the new growths so that they come out between the slats

Call me crazy but I just pluck that whole puppy out of the old pot and plunk it into a new yet much bigger pot so it can grow in the pattern it likes. I do have one that I'm looking at and it is just too long. I need to cut between and see if I can make two smaller plants. My dens always seem to welcome a new pot

here we have a rule when we repot dendrobs.'Keep the pot small' .
I repotted a dendrob 3 months ago ,it had 6 canes and it got potted into a 3 inch pot.The pot will not stand on its own but the roots are coming out of the top and bottom of the pot.There is enough room in the pot for about another 3-4 years growth.Since the repot it has put up 3 new growths,at this time of year for me AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I repotted the plant into chopped coconut husk witha size of 7/30 also known as gerbera/orchid.

Okay Orchid-Man, "Keep the pot small"...I like the idea but....how does one do that when the canes are 3+ feet long and bending towards the ground. I'm needing to repot this one in particular and I don't know how I'm going to keep it upright in its new pot. Any advice is welcomed.

That is a very common problem with Dendrobiums.The answer is to use a stake or eight with string or the likes going around the stakes and then as the canes grow raise the string.This is what I mean.The first is Dendrobiun Casslope

I have a dend. that has grown onto a piece of wood and the roots are so intertwined I'll never get it off unless I go thru it with tweezers. I plan to do something similar to what Gin said. Luckily the wood is in plastic, but you should be able to cut the slats of the basket.
By the way that is a monster plant.
