Paph delenatti in trouble?

Hello everyone,
Over the past week or two I noticed that my Paph delenatti medium seemed to not be drying out. I purchased it in June of 2014 and last repotted it in July of 2014. I found some sites that said I should have repotted it every 6 months. Not sure if that is true or not. I decided to repot it in fresh medium today. I use small coconut husk chips, small red lava rock, medium red lava rock, small sponge rock - perlite, medium stalite, coir and small granite chips. When I emptied the media out I found one small gnat like white bug less than a millimeter in length in the media. I noticed that the roots didn't look so great so I soaked the fresh media in physan 20 and rinsed the roots with physan 20.
My questions are is there anything else I can do or should do? How bad off are the roots? And should I have potted it every 6 months? I currently have one more paph that was given to me in December that it currently in cypress and perlite media. Should I repot that one in this new media being careful to repot every 6 months?

I repotted my paph delenatii last week, there were more roots but the roots did look similar to what is in your picture (I can't tell the firmness of your roots from your images).

I cannot say what the insect was you described. I have been very fortunate to have had only a few mealy bugs and some fungus gnats.

Repotting every 6 months is bit much, IMO. Once a year is OK from what I have read.

All but one root seemed firm. I left the one that wasn't firm because it wasn't totally squishy either like a bad phal root. It is getting a new leaf so will gauge how well it is doing I guess by how well that leaf comes in. It does have one yellow leaf but it's the last one on the bottom so I am not too concerned about that. The bug was incredibly small and I haven't found any of them on other plants so am hoping I caught the infestation before it started.
